Chris's 2013 NaPoMo

One bush by the walking path
smells like the woods
Standing close, caught in
the resin dusted cloud
Day camp and the summer
of shaded ground that gives,
overhanging leaf, metropolis
of interlocking twigs.

Chris,

I like the way the smell of "one bush" temporarily dislocates the N in time and space and sets off a chain reaction of memories. You are off and running, indeed!

Thank you, Kat. The sense of smell is a time machine.

Under this tree
with limbs folded
affix a sticky note
to the forehead, flank or scaled
fin belching brine with rotted fishes
bloating in...

What about the sticky note?

...upon which "thought" is written

A tap, a finger tip, a puff
a petite gesture
gleans a glimpse of blue

Ah, those gleanings thru the locusts...

Ah, Chris, this is a tricky poem. Tricky in the way the mind is tricky, so many twists and turns. I love the use of "a/the sticky note" and the way you've represented the different "creatures" within the human being. I also like the coupling of the contemporary (sticky note) with the age old (locusts), as another way of reminding us just where we are, how far we have and haven't come. Much food for "thought" in the way good poetry can be.

Why is the word "gleanings" so wonderful? I agree with Kat. Could not say it better. Intricately folded bit of time and poetry.

Star spangled or exotic
how do you take your heroes?
sacrificed, celebrated or martyred

Even the writers
ringing out and risen up
in degradation

Never mind the meanness
do not fondle the madness
like a filthy necrophiliac

Just here in the insincere
shadows of holograms
these warm companions.

Some great stuff here creating cognitive dissonance, like "risen up/in degradation." An offering to awaken the mind on a sunny, cold spring morning. Thank you!

Hey Chris,

Great topic for a poem, and I love the way it starts. You cook up a mean batch of sharp, tangy, tart. Just the way I like 'em. emoticon

To Whom It May Concern,

The lambs wool vest I ordered
arrived with a hole in the front

it also happens
I requested too large a size.

I would have been compelled
to return the vest if it had arrived
in perfect condition,

but had it fit,
I'd have to return it anyway
due to the defect.

Now see here, Whom,
I think it only fair that
in addition to the cost of the vest,
you refund the cost of mailing it back

$17.00

Yours truly

and nothing more to earn

Chris, your lambs wool vest poem is a hoot. I love the precise yet convoluted way the N explains the crux of the situation. emoticon

"another morning
and what comes after"

Somehow that ending feels precarious and raft-like. Perfect.

Hi Chris,

I read the poem you posted yesterday before you withdrew it. It was sharp, biting, to the point. I think I understand why you removed it, not that I think you needed to, but this is just to say: Even if you don't repost it, you should count it as your poem for the day yesterday.

Chris, an answer to your poem's final question: I think it's the weather and less fear of (things) going south.

Tere is right. I'm enjoying these poems, these daily snapshots into your thinking and your life.

Signs of spring, Chris? These lines are really fine at capturing the blackbird being lifted skyward:

is a permanent feature
