Hi Arka,

I don't know enough about Celan's poetry to comment on your question. I did stumble on this comment recently at another board that might be useful to you:

"Unfortunately I can't read him in the original, which poses a problem. To my mind in Rothenberg's, and now in Popov's translations there is a certain refined beauty which does not exist in the other translations, for example in those by Pierre Jorris." (posted by Asashe)

I also recenlty read an article by Tom Cheetam that, although it does not address your question, might still be of interest to you:

"This chapter, Harmonia Abrahamica: The Lost Speech and the Battle for the Soul of the World, has been excerpted a few times on this blog, but I make it available here in its (brief) entirety as a google document. The discussion includes some consideration of Heidegger and Paul Celan. The issues raised still seem to me of ultimate importance."

Hello !

The link below may serve as a good introduction to Pierre Joris and his approach to Celan and translation (Todtnauberg)

Thanks for the link, kernel. And welcome to the baord.

Cul I wish I could contribute to the discussion. But I've not read Celan or thought about him since the seventies. And even then my familiarity with him was slight. But I am curious about your interest in him.

Tere
