Streisand takes it with her version. Understated (rare for her) with beautiful key change and harmonics in last stanza. Patty Page had a lovely alto and the musical arrangement suited her voice but nothing of herself given to the song. Terrible arrangement for Lena Horne: her voice is drowned out by the instruments. Don't know if that was a function of her losing projection in later years, but the balance was certainly off and distracted from her fabulous voice. You wanna hear Lena--you want Stormy Weather!

Such fun, EA. I confess I am inclined to the Streisand cover too. But I also confess to having had a childhood crush on Patty Page. On Peggy Lee's torch jazz too. All by the age of 10. (Talk about warning signs.) Very perceptive about the Lena Horne cover. Spot on.
