It was a happy day when the forum got made. A place where one does not have to write to expectations of any sort. For almost thirty years I kept a journal. Journal, diary, workbook all in one. In other words field notes. Best writing and thinking exercise I've ever conducted. I am glad the forum was there for you last night. You used it to advantage. Everyone I know is okay. A few are without electricity. There are some trees down and minor flooding in the area. The county is expecting the clean up to take days and cost millions of dollars, but nothing here like they are seeing upstate. Tere, I do love the freedom of expression this forum accomodates.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Katlin)Mon, 29 Aug 2011 14:39:13 +0000 Re: My Night With Irenehttps://bdelectablemnts.runboard.com/p9919,from=rss#post9919https://bdelectablemnts.runboard.com/p9919,from=rss#post9919This is such good writing. A field note, true journalism. Journal writing like when all you have between you and the storm is a note pad. By the time I got to the end unaccounted for tears were backing up behind the eyes. Coccooning inside while the soaking wind battered at the house, there was a fear, yes, a fear of an end, but I recall also an excitement, as if somehing new was being prepared ouside. A new nature, a new world.. (one wihout run-on sentences) fel I hope you and your family are ok. Loved the flow and humanity of this writing, the way the numerous thought-thread are tied togeher. alkinondisclosed_email@example.com (Alkiviades)Sun, 28 Aug 2011 19:15:31 +0000 Re: My Night With Irenehttps://bdelectablemnts.runboard.com/p9914,from=rss#post9914https://bdelectablemnts.runboard.com/p9914,from=rss#post9914Thank you for this jangled, vulnerable note from the field. I am glad and relieved to know you're OK. Fine writing, great title. Good night, Irene. I'll see you in the streams. I spent the night and all morning worrying about a cat and her kitten that my neighbor abandoned outside. I didn't realize they were out there and what bad shape they were in until last Thursday. I rushed to the store and got some cat food that I started feeding them before the hurricane came. When I saw the pair this afternoon after the worst of the rain had passed, I felt so relieved. Tomorrow I am calling the SPCA to see if they will come and rescue them. Another neighbor told me the mother cat has been declawed! Dear God/dess Almighty. Abandoned, starving cats made me think of abandoned starving people around the world. Lip service as usual? I close my eyes. worry worry worry   worry about my neighbor on dialysis. will the road be clear so he can go to his regular monday morning appointment? will my friend and his 93 year old mother, who is growing senile, lose power? what about my own 76 year old mother who lives alone along the coast in NC? what about my niece and her daughter who live in myrtle beach? how about my sister in western MA who road out Hugo in a bathtub over 20 years ago and then watched the Katrina coverage in disbelief? power plants shutting down in VA while Japan's prime minister resigns. time to worry about my friends who live several miles from Indian Point? which way is the wind blowing, blowing blowing blowing hard rain falling which way which way every which way and loose the buddha’s path to enlightenment: love something and then extrapolate extrapolation is making me late keeping me waiting but I’ll try to see into their eyes right now, to stay right here cause these are the good old days these are skittery jittery didgeridoo stop the world and let me off I’m tired of going round and round the shaking keeps me steady I should know what falls away is always and is near what a fucking mess we’ve made transformers exploding but not before I learn 12/21/12 is the predicted past due date tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps upon this petty pace but we’re gonna have a party a tea party don’t expect the government to protect you or as my friend Herman used to say: be very kind to each other and remember who loves you the need for power power grids see the connection? lights flickering I almost do Yet another neighbor refers to my cat abandoning neighbor as white trash. I don’t know. Her life is in chaos. Emergency room visit after punching a wall. Can’t pay the rent. Doesn’t even collect her mail. Caring for cats is the least of her worries. Turning them out and relying on the kindness of strangers. Am I that stranger? Et tu? Stranger than who? Strangers, then who? Why love what you will lose? There is nothing else to love. 1, 2, 3 & counting the sirens so far this evening (some lines borrowed from lead belly, belew & stevenson, roethke, dylan, simon, shakespeare, eastwood, paul, gluck, etc.)nondisclosed_email@example.com (Katlin)Sun, 28 Aug 2011 18:22:02 +0000
