Charles Olson and Projective Verse
Incredible. The Poetry Foundation somehow has the whole of Olson's seminal essay on line. I think I can rightly say I have read all the major essays on poetry and poetics since at least Coleridge's Biographia Literaria. Olson's is the essay that hands down speaks closest to the case of poetry. I don't agree with him entirely. More to the point, I disagree with how his notions have gotten applied, especially by him. Nor do I consider Olson a particularly good poet. I have known naive poets more successful than him at creating the field of energy he said all poetry should produce. But I know of no theorist who has gotten as close to the woof and warp of poetry.
