Chris's 2012 NaPoMo
Tumor the size of a snow globe
turned ground over sky and shook
a blizzard down the snowman, I
don't love knowledge though
I keep a picture of its minefield
on my mantle by the alpine scene
and don't I dust the spaces in between?

Re: Chris's 2012 NaPoMo
It's not a word to be kept
in a lead-lined container. Unlike
nuclear waste, it does not dissipate.
Its ownership must pass to those
against whom it was deployed
to do with what it takes
to wear it out.

Re: Chris's 2012 NaPoMo
Well, I can relate. Certainly as one on the receiving end of deployment, but also, if I'm honest, which the poem encourages me to be, as one capable of deployment.

Spiked petals interlocked
fortress round the bearded
heart and the chef with his
dangerous knife will hack
flat the clawed mechanism
fished from the boiling pot
still fibrous,exuding
steam and what passes for green.

Yum? Just kidding. Poem does a good job evoking the violence involved when we help ourselves to our daily meals. Lest we forget, as we so often do.

Re: Chris's 2012 NaPoMo
His monument at last
was bad. A disappointment
let's be honest. He himself
was pedestal-averse, falling
from popular grace when
the bullet caught him.
We are lifted on the words
as on sea swells and fear
we might not get there.

Medical Alert: White Plains, NY
Neighborhood Watch: Sanford, Florida
The thing speaks for itself
A barrel of flour fell
from an open window
injuring a passer by
res ipsa, the judges intoned
not the sort of thing
to happen in
the absence of
malice (No No No
it was negligence)
Help, I've been shot and I can't get up.

Chris,
Excellent. Thank you for this! I had to google to understand the references, and I'm glad I did.
Maybe send this one to The New Verse News? I spent some time on a left-leaning political site yesterday arguing about the case, so I know the topic is raging and relevant.

Re: Chris's 2012 NaPoMo
Yeah, this needs translation. I'm glad you thought it was worth the effort, I'm indulging myself as usual during NaPoMo, pity the poor reader! It is liberating to put aside concerns re: comprehensibility

Morning Walk
looking for the tai chi guy
conductor of molecular tsunamis
not there today
dogs,dogs, dogs
the man with the empty right sleeve
and his companion
exchanging our courteous greetings
the chiuaua lady describes
her girls' encounter with
two rottweilers, pronounced
"rock-wilders," belligerent owners
and a pick-up truck; story
culminates in a courtroom
the plucky chiuaua presented
as evidence.

How many dollars will the campaign incur
before we are well and profoundly inured?
I believe we are rapidly approaching that number.
Meanwhile, Greek potato growers are
selling their goods directly off the truck.

Ghost Ship
Scheduled for scrapping
saved by the tsunami
swallowed and spewed out whole
a years' reprieve
to cross the Pacific unpiloted
drifting into Alaskan waters
untowable, a survivor of sorts.

Re: Chris's 2012 NaPoMo
Chris, you are so good at taking what's right there in front of us and making it into a poem. I saw a report on the ghost ship too, felt there was something sad about it, but never thought to make a poem. Now that you have the image of the rusted, rudderless ghost ship will stay with me longer.

April Birthdays
Eighteen and eighty, they
are each this Spring,
his line still unreeling
hers, reeled in.

Ode to April
when the linen of religion
obscures the tits of Spring
and fashion turns to floral
once again.

Yes, the image of Jerusalem
We will walk with our heads high
in Israel
shed of Shylock and Fagin
conversion or the gallows
but I didn't come here to dwell
on insults--just this to indicate
my leanings--and to tell you,
among the sacred bones upon which
you will stand to condemn me,
my grandmother's mother's
and to say I see something in
the wretched and the rounded up
in the skinny stone throwers
of Gaza; something of David.

This is wonderful. Great reads -- images, words and how they sound and what they say. Ya know -- the package. Little gems. I'm so glad you brought back the spring tits -- because I missed it first time around and it's wonderful. Go go go!

Now a stranger stands to sing his song
about a lonesome boy who don't belong
standing on the side of the road
with nowhere left in this world to smoke.

Hydrangeas
are porch-front framers, character vouchers
suspicion soothers and gossip quelchers
"Move along," they burble, mown lawns
and lemonade
Nobody hears the stifled screams
of the pineapple pieces
caught in the horrible green jello.
