Christmas '08
Weather was chill, silver rain
sky sprawled in the path of the wind.
Concerning preparation of the ham
there was muted bickering.
The hopeful dog kept close to the kitchen.
Ankles in eddies of wrapping
paper, hand painted earrings for me
and sweaters
a cloth bound notebook.
My own gifts padded
with baked goods this year.
Next morning was peeled blue. Bell bright.

Re: Christmas '08
Hi Chris,
I like this Christmas day family snapshot.
I love the humor in the second stanza and the line: "Ankles in eddies of wrapping
paper".
"Next morning was peeled blue. Bell bright." Also nice. Just right.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Wistful is the tone I get, Chrisfriend. A fine emotion it is.

Re: Christmas '08
I like the second stanza...it is not a Hallmark Christmas card, but what real, most families do. You capture the day well.
