National Poetry Month
.
National Poetry Month
Is it just simple coincidence
or maliciously designed irony
that National Poetry Month should
begin on April Fools Day?
For, as everyone knows,
though dread to acknowledge,
poetry is but a fool’s game.
Of what use being quickly forgotten
to those who obtain glory today?
And of what use laurels and honor
to those who lie in the grave?

Re: National Poetry Month
Oh my. Never thought about the timing of NPOMO. Hmmm. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Sorry. Utterly trite, but it popped into my head.

Re: National Poetry Month
Hi Gary,
Maybe neither a simple coincidence nor a malicious irony, but a third option: a delicious sense of humor on the part of someone or Other.

Re: National Poetry Month
My sweets, April is Eliot's cruellest month. Thus the month is assigned to poetry nationally. That's all it is.
