Cypher

O’ evil Man
It is not your gods who make you so.
They laugh at their celestial balls,
silly little mood slaves
primed to vomit sour wine,
feast after bloody binge.
Who is the moral gatekeeper,
the celebrated purveyor of righteousness?
Who the masked scoundrel,
cross-dressed wolves and lambs
in demonic jig?
A lively game to wile away some
vague eternity.
Our children obscured in armament.
So many souls to devour.

Re: cypher

Funny thing about cypher (google informs me). It comes from the Arabic sifr (zero) and seems to hold on to that meaning even in late middle english whatever that is. It has the makings of a fascinating problem. Encryption as nothingness. Coming to the poem i find some of these concerns reflected. our children obscured ina rmament. A critique of war, holy war and every war apollonian/ dionysian that we are adept at performing by now. "A lively game" that the gods jeer at. The god themselves are "silly little mood slaves," wolf and lamb in each other's skin. Souls the only currency.
