Reading the Yeats poem is one thing. Seeing how the ancient Greek myth has been treated in great art, well, that is something else. Of course, the core of the myth is lost to us. Swan = father Zeus. No more strange than the Biblical Samson screwing Philistine priestesses in order to plant his seed, by which means his religion could overtake hers. Myths are always so telling. What a weird myth, when you think about it. Amazing art and poetry. Thanks.
