Compromises I may have made

The epoch of cynicism had not yet arrived when Jonas first found it, that seashell of his.

Young, restless,glowing- we were beautiful then. Conditioning was a word undefined. Life's futility was still hiding behind the curtain of puberty. There, down by the lake a special spell was in place. Summer days packed tight with music, smiling at the sun, wondering how many hues of blue the sky would reveal. Every now and then, we would goad each other into some epic cannonball challenge. Thrown off the dock by the madness of ignorance, we would shake the still waters, if only for a little while. Awing ourselves, laughing. Really laughing. In mid-air, if we were real lucky, the world would stop and time would end. If only for a little while. Days of magic were upon us.....

It was on one of these "baptisms" of ours that Jonas surfaced with a new variety of wonderment, eyes shot wide, beaming through me."A seashell, he said, I think I saw a seashell!". Now, it might seem odd to you know, but to us, back then, it was just another color on the rainbow. In fact, Jonas, having grazed it with his toe and judged its twinkle with his eye, was half-convinced that it was actually a wad of fireflies gone underwater. "It was like they were glowing at ME." As for me, I was pretty sure they were fairies of some sort. A fallen star, maybe. Later, when we mentioned it to my parents, they agreed that Jonas' seashell theory was best.I kept on with my own ideas. They seemed far more likely.

(This was an older prose piece that I had thought deleted. It seemed like a dull read and I did'nt feel as if it had any "pull" to it.)

It has pull, to use your term. Let your readership decide. Trust us that much.

This is a good prose poem.

Yes, it pulled me in. Then, I totally enjoyed the ride. What kind of pull were you looking for?
