Could have sworn I once posted this link but can't find it. Site is a bit too precious for my tastes, a bit too much in the way of New Age spirituality, something I've always instinctively distrusted, distrust seated in the reptilian portion of my brain. But go especially to the Crete link. That was my first encounter with Melissa, queen bee.

I wish this was getting more coverage but the local paper in my area is doing a series on the death of so many honeybees, so some people are starting to catch on. Too little, too late?

I heard it has to do with a pesticide containing nicotine. In Europe they've imposed a ban and will monitor the effects. Too much to expect of the U.S. I guess,

It's called neonicotinoid, Chris. It does belong to the class of nicotine drugs. Intended to be an improvement over reliance on organophosphates. My sense, Chris and Kat, is that there is not one causative factor contributing to the challenge faced by honey bees. Agrochemicals, disease (bacterial and viral), parasites, fungi, and, apiary management that amounts to factory farming. Consistently the die offs I hear about come from commercial bee keepers, not from hobbyists or sideliners.
