untitled
My little mother has boarded a plane
for Northern California. Impossible.
A knick-knack taken from
its niche. I want to pack her
brittle plaster in paper. She folds
four dollar bills in the outside pocket
just in case.
Lithium palsied, some thirty years
on, "Your mother is a force
of Nature," my father informed us.
Thanks Dad.
It's my brother's movie.
He'll greet her at the airport,
treat her to the sights. He'll
offer his good, firm mattress
and take the couch.
He too, has a paragraph to revise.
A tenderness to affix.

Re: untitled
What an elegant postcard portrait and made with so much care and attention to the moment. Last couplet quite an effective ellipsis of emotion.

Re: untitled
Chris,
Powerful, compact, complex writing. The story told with minimal but just the right details. I also admire the tone: tough and tender all at once. A fine poem. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Re: untitled
Thanks Kat,
I like this little studio space, I can write a little closer to the bone. Good idea, this space.

Re: untitled
Your space, Chrisfriend. Yes? Your poem touches my heart. Just like you I figure I want a space where poetry hits on my body. That's okay, right?
